Read the articles on reparations by Margaret Urban Walker and George Schedler. Walker is
writing in favor of reparations of some kind for the injustice done to African Americans as a result of
slavery and the Jim Crow laws. Schedler is writing against reparations (at least as done by the
government. It is difficult to see how reparations could be, in practice, carried out without the
government. Read both articles, and then write a review of the one with which you most disagree. Do
so in a philosophical style. That is the goal of your analysis is a better understanding of the truth. This
is not to be an exercise in writing a persuasive piece, rather it is a exercise in analyzing a view,
recognizing what is good about it (and learning from it), as well as identifying the weaknesses in the
author’s argument.
