You should carefully consider what is meant by ‘increasing fragmentation’ in this context and ensure that it remains central to your analysis, debating the extent to which it has occurred as appropriate. Explanations are derived from various perspectives and you should test out the validity and persuasiveness of each that you identify: ensure that you do not, for example, do little more than describe the emergence of private security by repeating an historical explanation. Does one explanation persuade you more than any other? If so, why? Do you think that such a complex process can be explained, for example, in economic or political terms or is it more likely that there is a combination of reasons?
