In this paper, you will analyze TWO of the following sonnets, paying special attention to the use of the following:
rhyme scheme, meter, imagery, diction, syntax, enjambment, punctuation, figurative language (including symbols,
metaphors, similes, personification), and sound (alliteration, repetition). Who is the speaker, who is being
addressed, and what is the situation? How do the formal elements of the sonnet serve to complement, emphasize,
or subvert the thematics of the poem (ie. structure and content)? How does this sonnet fit into or deviate from the
genre of the sonnet? Think of this as a more thought out and better organized version of a response paper. Make
sure each paragraph is focused on a main idea, pay attention to the logical flow and transitions between
paragraphs, and provide an orienting introduction and a clear conclusion. Outside research is strongly
