Assignment Question 1

Your reading and observations, together with the focused tasks you have carried out whilst working through this booklet, have introduced you to models of curriculum organisation and pedagogical approaches that lead to effective learning and teaching.

For your assignment response choose one example of an approach to learning and teaching that you have observed and discuss why you believe it to be effective in supporting student achievement.

You should analyse and include examples from your school/college observations and provide relevant theoretical underpinning taken from your reading.

You should aim to write 400 words for your answer.

Your assignment will be marked based on your ability to address the learning outcomes for the module, namely:
critical thinking in relation to school/college operation
understanding of the educational issues covered
reflection and analysis of observations in school/college
application of theoretical knowledge to practical situations.

Assignment Question 2

Focusing in particular on the role of the teacher in facilitating learning, provide an analysis that compares and contrasts one of your observations of a lesson in one subject area with one in a different subject area.

If your focus is secondary choose your ‘own’ subject area and compare and contrast with a different subject.

If your focus is Primary choose either two core subjects (Literacy (including phonics), numeracy or science) or one core and one foundation subject.

If your focus is Early Years the curriculum is likely to be organized into areas of learning or adopt a thematic approach. Choose lessons taught within two different areas of learning e.g literacy, numeracy, understanding the world or expressive arts and design.

Your conclusions need to be underpinned with references from literature beyond those given in the previous section – Week 1 page 11.

You should aim to write 800 words in total for your answer

Assignment Question 3

Teachers need to ensure their pupils make progress in learning. Using the lesson observations and planning activities undertaken in task 7 as your starting point and also your reading, reflect upon and analyse the impact questioning had on the level of pupil progress, participation and engagement. You could focus on one pupil, if you wish, when compiling your response.

You should aim to write 800 words for your discussion.

Each is equally weighted.

Assignment Question 4

Evaluate the behaviour for learning strategies you have observed being used in your subject area or age phase. For your assignment response choose two key strategies to discuss, providing an analysis that demonstrates your understanding of how they support an effective and purposeful classroom environment, making reference to relevant literature and your own school/college observations. (1000 words)

You should aim to write 1000 words for this answer. If you research extensively, it would be useful to add a separate bibliography for this part of the assignment.

Assignment Question 5

Reflecting upon the assessment strategies you have observed being used in your subject or age phase, compare and contrast two of these – one which you have observed to be effective in progressing learning and one less so. In your answer, you should critically analyse your observation evidence and underpin your conclusions with relevant literature.

Note: Trainees based in secondary should choose their main subject; in primary, literacy or numeracy, early years an ‘area of learning.’

You should aim to write 1000 words for this answer.
