Origins of Early Colonies

Prepare: In Chapter 2, you will read that Jamestown, although remembered today as the foundation upon which English North America was established, came quite close to abandonment several times in its early history, and suffered extraordinarily high mortality rates for decades. By contrast, despite one bad winter at the onset, the New England colonies of Plymouth and Massachusetts quickly stabilized and flourished.
