Prewriting
Using one of the prewriting techniques we covered (ch. 5 in the textbook)organize your thoughts before writing the essay.

Research
Interview a family member or other acquaintance that has lived through an historic event, or dealt with a particular challenge.

Writing
Write a 6-page biographical story based on the family member or acquaintance’s information and quotes, and also the contextual research you conducted. The essay will be written in first-person MLA format. Use The Color of Water as a guide.

Include the following elements in the story:

Setting
Characters
Point of view
Plot
Theme
Dialogue
Description

Note: You are not pointing out these elements, but you are writing a fictional story that includes all of them.

After You Have Completed the Story
Bring your story (all 6 pages) and notes (you can double-side to save paper if you’d like) to class on Monday, October 19 for peer review. Your peer review partner will offer suggestions and feedback for revision and editing. You will then turn in the completedrevised story (final draft) on Wednesday, October 21.
