Use the Common Core Standards of math for the grade1. Choose one of the content strands:

What are the major characteristics of the standard?
What are the specific benchmarks of learning for that grade in that standard?
Look at the curriculum in nyc’s school to see if it reflects the Core Curriculum standards for the grade in which you are currently student teaching. Give a brief description of the curricular materials/text, and then focus in greater detail on units that correlate with your chosen standard. What is the quality of the content of these units? Is this a curriculum from which you would be able to effectively teach your standard? Would you need supplementary materials?
Choose one activity for your standard and specify the grade level. Describe how you would implement that activity in your classroom, include necessary materials and differentiation for struggling/high achieving students.
