Detailed guidance on content:
The sections outlined below are indicative – it gives a possible outline of what to include:
1. Identify a ‘real world’ organisational situation to analyse.
• Provide a brief introduction section to outline the situation clearly to the reader.
¥ The situation that you are familiar with from your experience and will need to be one which will give you rich opportunities to apply thought & insight from your studies: usually situations involving change or conflict are useful. It might be drawn from your own industrial/ commercial experience or could be at university.
• You will use judgement, discretion & consultation to decide what situation to use for this assignment.
• The situation does not have to be major or particularly exciting but demonstrating your ability to look beyond the usual case studies (i.e. GOOGLE) and apply the theory covered in the unit to a familiar situation to yourself.
2. Choose TWO out of the three topics and identify 1 or 2 theories/models for EACH topic from the lecture/tutorial content and the recommended reading.
¥ Provide a clear description of your chosen theories/models and explain why you have chosen them.
¥ You need to be clear but concise. You may have covered these topics briefly on previous units, however at level 5 we expect you to be able to understand the limitations and strengths of models, and to apply them effectively.
3. Analyse the events in your real world situation using the chosen theories or models.
¥ In this you show how the theories/models help to make sense of what happened, You will be exploring why the events occurred as they did – and whether the actors involved could have handled the situation differently (perhaps by applying ideas from the theories or models).
¥ Were there any instances of (un)professional and (un)ethical behaviour?
4. Most importantly, compare the effectiveness of your chosen models as analytical tools for your further development.
• Address the extent to which each model provides insights into the ‘real world’ situation – and what have you learned from each. In addition, does using more than one model provide further insights than you would have using a single model?
¥ How will you take the lessons learned from this analysis in future if you find yourself in a similar situation? What have you learned in terms of acting professionally and ethically?

What you are doing:
• Selecting & describing a situation to which to apply OB analysis.
• Critically applying appropriate multiple OB theories to the situation – drawing from two of the three topics.

• Contributing your developed thoughts about OB as a tool of analysis.
