1) What is a House of Quality? What is the purpose of using House of Quality? Describe all the elements of a House of Quality and how it is used in decision making. Think of a simple product, build and use a House of Quality for this product. You may have to put yourself in the shoes of both a designer as well as a consumer of this product to fill up the House of Quality.

Under normal use conditions, the Failure of a heating coil can be modelled using the exponential distribution with a mean time between failure of (10 + K) cycles. Please show all your steps clearly to claim full marks for this question.

a. Determine the probability that the heater will wear out within 50 cycles.
b. Now consider a composite heating system that consists of a primary heating coil and some identical backup coils. Tabulate the probability that the heating system will last at least 30 cycles, for 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 backups. Plot a chart depicting this probability against the number of backups used. How many backups do you need to guarantee that there is at least 25% chance that the system will last 30 cycles?
