Become an expert on one author’s style. There is a plethora of non-fiction authors to choose from, so finding an author’s writing you will enjoy should not be difficult. You may, however, need to dig a bit before you find your treasure.

1. Select a non-fiction author that has published two or more books.
2. Research the author’s life history, collected works, and common themes.
3. Read a minimum of 500 pages of the author’s non-fiction work.
4. Analyze the stylistic and rhetorical strategies of your author and write an essay using MLA format

Essay should address the following:

• brief background on the author that includes influences on author that appear in his/her writing and discussion of recurring themes (if they exist)
• discussion of style (supported by examples from BOTH texts)
o Voice
o Syntax
o Diction
o Punctuation
o Tone
o Figures of Speech
• rhetorical devices used (supported by quotations from BOTH texts)
