To complete this assignment, instructors will assign three essays, each to be 300-350 words (there is no penalty for going over the word count).

Use the GCU Library databases, assigned readings, and textbook for evidentiary support.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.
This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
Essay Questions

Responses/essays should not be a simple rehashing of the text and/or lecture, rather incorporate articles/Web sites and the students insights, reflections and evidentiary support.

1) Describe the attributes needed to become a competent mental health professional. Include counseling techniques, necessary personal characteristics, and professional ethics. Describe why the attributes you suggest are important.

2) Discuss the various methods of complementary and alternative therapies. Which are based on actual researched health principles? Who is likely to use each method and why? Based on the research and your own experiences, do you believe CAM methods should be encouraged?

3) Discuss the role of gender in health. What factors (e.g., biological, psychological, or social) influence male and female health? How do males and females differ in their health risk and promoting behaviors?
