"Having loved and Lost" thesis

The text book that was used was ” The story and its Writer” the ninth edition. Compare and contrast two short stories. “The Necklace” by Author Guy de Maupassant’s and “Miss Brill” by Author Katherine Mansfield’s.
Aspects of similarity to look for might be, but are certainly not limited to: plot, theme, point of view, tone, character, irony, symbolism, setting, time period etc.
The above stated aspects are also issues that may be discussed for differences that you may mention. Aspects of the story that you might develop your thesis statement around might be, but are certainly not limited to:
Any of the literary terms that we have been talking about, the author’s intentions, the supplementary reading’s interpretation, a possible interpretation of author’s intentions based on supplementary reading etc.
You must use one source besides the two stories, which must be commentary or supplementary reading from the textbook. Then you will develop a thesis statement, which you will use the reading to support. You will not be using any other sources besides your textbook for this essay.

Note: Whatever supplementary reading you use to discuss your stories and support your thesis statement does not have to be a supplementary reading that we have read with a specific story (since there was only 1 assigned per learning unit). If you find that another supplementary reading that we read for a different story or one that we didn’t read at all (as long as it is in the book) better fits your purpose, you are welcome to use it.
From the textbook. The commentaries and supplementary readings are located in parts 2 and 3 (excluding the pages on graphic storytelling) of the textbook , pg. 869-1035 of the compact 9th edition. Do not pick anything that is not on those pages, such as definitions of literary terms
