UAE is ranked sixth out of 193 countries in the prevalence of birth defects due to genetic causes, according to UAE Genetic Disease Association (UAEGDA) (Message from chairperson of the UAEGDA, 2012). Consanguinity rates are as high as 50.4% in the UAE, there is high incidence of autosomal recessive genetic disorders such as autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease and there is lack of genetic services to support patients and their families (Al ghazali, 2006).
