The proposed project will look into the expansion planning methods currently used in practice and will explore the impacts on traditional planning methods over the increased uncertainties of a power distribution network and risk calculated planning. In particular the project will investigate the uncertainties arisen through the wind and PV systems, and consumer habitual changes with the prosumer effects. The project aim is realised through the objectives of:

· Critical review of literature on traditional expansion planning techniques and their critical issues
· Modelling uncertainties of wind, PV, and prosumers
· Risk based design strategy development (high risk, moderate risk and low risk designs at the expansion planning)
· Assessment of sensitivity/ impacts of uncertainties on the benefits of traditional expansion planning
· Proposing the required changes to achieve wider benefits with increased levels of uncertainties in a distribution network with minimum risk
