Paper, Order, or Assignment Requirements

The essay will provide an interpretation also known as an argument explaining how the artwork might be critically understood.

Your essay should focus on your interpretation of the work, using the readings to underpin your ideas. In order to create a convincing interpretation or argument, your essay should be well informed. You should draw, first of all, on your own experiences of the artwork, but you will have to conduct a substantial amount of other research as well to show that you have a thorough understanding of the artwork and its concepts and related debates. Your own ideas and judgments are important, but you should also consider how the artwork has been interpreted more widely do you agree or disagree, and why?

-) At least one primary research source (your gallery visit counts as this).
-) At least critical theory text (any assigned reading from a Unit 1 lecture counts as this).
-) At least one text from a professional art magazine.
-) At least one text from a book.
-) At least one online source from a professional or academic website, such as an art
gallery, online art magazine, or research forum.

You may also use acadmically appropriate online videos, such as interviews or lectures with artists or theorists.
Your bibliography should contain at least 10 sources in total. These sources must not include: Dictionary, Thesaurus, search engines, or Wikipedia.
Some artworks especially if they are very contemporary may not have much published about them. If this is the case, you might use transferrable research such as investigating other works by the same artist, related historical precedents, or contemporary works by other artists with similar themes, to give validation to your ideas and interpretive rationale.
