Health Disparities

There has been a push to improve quality healthcare and decrease health disparities. Review the AHRQ report on Health Disparities on the web (2013). Discuss whether quality of care for heart attack or stroke is getting better or worse. The report states what is improving and what is worsening. Discuss the disparity and current rate of change. Using information from the literature (journal article) discuss factors impacting the rate of change positively and negatively. Is there a change in how we provide services or treat the problem? In New York City, supersized drinks are not allowed to be sold. Data shows that this has helped decrease obesity. For example did we change the criteria for prenatal care or reimbursement? Treatment availability, policies or quality of care can impact health outcomes. Additionally, individual and family beliefs about health impacts access to services and health . behavior. For example, why do people continue to smoke, drink alcohol excessively, fail to exercise or fail to get immunizations (flu, childhood immunizations for their children) Discuss the health disparity in quality of care for heart attack or stroke in relation to these factors, utilizing the text and a journal article.
