BYU MUSEUM OF ART VISIT REPORT DIRECTIONS

1. Type your report in Microsoft Word using 12 point Times, single line spacing, and 1 inch margins.

2. Create a cover page with your name, Art 1010-380, BYU Museum of Art Visit Report, and the date of your visit. DO NOT include anything else on the cover page. Include the cover page in the same file as your paragraph page.

3. Fill 1 page with the 4 paragraphs described below and NOTHING else. DO NOT include any information that is on your cover page. Your paragraphs must be derived from the notes you took while you were at the BYU Museum of Art. Your 4 paragraphs must FILL the entire page. DO NOT write more than this.

PARAGRAPH 1:  IN YOUR OWN WORDS, describe one exhibition at the BYU Museum of Art. An exhibition is a specific group of artwork such as the “Shaping of America” exhibition – it is NOT a single work of art. Be detailed and specific about the exhibition. DO NOT include any opinions in this paragraph. DO NOT include any form of “I liked,” “I didn’t like,” “it was great,” “it was beautiful,” “they did a good job of,” or any other words or phrases that express your opinion. DO NOT quote or copy anything from the Museum or their website. Do not give me facts and figures.

PARAGRAPH 2: IN YOUR OWN WORDS, describe one individual work of art at the BYU Museum of Art. Be detailed and specific about the individual work of art. DO NOT include any opinions in this paragraph. DO NOT include any form of “I liked,” “I didn’t like,” “it was great,” “it was beautiful,” “they did a good job of,” or any other words or phrases that express your opinion. DO NOT quote or copy anything from the Museum or their website.  Do not give me facts and figures. DO NOT write about anything that you discussed in paragraph 1. DO NOT use a work of art that is in the exhibition that you wrote about in paragraph 1.

PARAGRAPH 3: IN YOUR OWN WORDS, explain one thing that you learned from your visit to the BYU Museum of Art. This could be something you learned about art in general, about your opinion of art, about the museum, about an exhibition, about an artist, about an individual work of art, etc. DO NOT include any opinions in this paragraph. DO NOT include any form of “I liked,” “I didn’t like,” “it was great,” “it was beautiful,” “they did a good job of,” or any other words or phrases that express your opinion about whether you liked it or not. DO NOT quote or copy anything from the Museum or their website. Do not give me facts and figures. DO NOT write about anything that you discussed in paragraphs 1 or 2.

PARAGRAPH 4: Share one thing that you liked or did not like about the BYU Museum of Art and why. This is where you share your opinion about art or exhibitions in general at the museum, about your experience at the museum, about a specific exhibition, about an artist, about an individual work of art, etc. Be detailed and specific about what you liked or did not like and why. DO NOT quote or copy anything from the Museum or their website. Do not give me facts and figures. DO NOT write about anything that you discussed in paragraphs 1, 2, or 3.

4. Photograph your notes that you wrote during your visit and save them as a JPG file. INCLUDE these JPG files at the end of your 4 paragraphs. DO NOT submit these JPG files separately.

5. Save your selfie that you took in front of the BYU Museum as a JPG file. INCLUDE this JPG file at the end of your report. DO NOT submit this JPG file separately.

6. Save your report as a Microsoft Word (doc) file. NO OTHER FILE FORMATS WILL BE EXCEPTED.

7. Submit your Word (doc) file here by clicking on “Submit Assignment” at the top right.

8. If you are given corrections or changes to make, you need to make them then submit your revised Word file here. If you cannot submit it here, then attach it in an email through the Canvas “Inbox”.
