Assignment

Assignment
Tendinopathy: Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction (PTTD)
• Discuss what is currently understood regarding the aetiology of this condition and how it would be recognised clinically.
• Then choose one example of a conservative treatment intervention for this condition and discuss the rationale and evidence supporting its use. (NOT surgery).
Basic assignment structure
Introduction:
• Define the topic
• Set out the key areas for discussion within your assignment
Main body of the Discussion
• Identify the aetiological factors associated with your chosen tendinopathy
• Discuss in detail how these aetiological factors result in the tendinopathy that you have chosen
• Discuss how your chosen tendinopathy would be recognised clinically (Don’t simply describe your assessment of the patient!)
• Briefly outline the main goals in the management of your chosen tendinopathy and choose one example of a conservative treatment intervention
• Discuss the rationale behind this treatment intervention along with the evidence supporting its clinical efficacy (USE BOOKS AND JOURNALS TO SUPPORT YOUR ANALYSIS/EVIDENCE)
Conclusion
• Summarise your discussion and the main themes covered
• State your conclusions based upon the evidence (BOOKS AND JOURNALS) presented in the main body of the text
• Link your conclusions back to the assignment title

DO NOT need to discuss the surgical management of the tendinopathy (PTTD).
Objectives
This assignment is intended to assess the following learning outcomes:
1. Apply a knowledge of the aetiology, pathogenesis and clinical presentation to a range of commonly seen musculoskeletal pathologies affecting the foot and lower limb
2. Analyse current concepts explaining the abnormal biomechanical function of the foot and lower limb
3. Discuss critically current methods in the evaluation of foot and lower limb biomechanical function
4. Use evidence based practice and podiatric therapeutic sciences justify appropriate conservative management options for the treatment of a range of commonly seen musculoskeletal pathologies affecting the foot and lower limb.

Requirements
Demonstrate extended knowledge and critical understanding of:
* Well-defined and complex concepts and principles
* Interrelationship between theoretical principles and subject-related practice
Demonstrate the ability to:
* Interpret and critically appraise the suitability of well-established principles
* Problem-solve and/or apply principles in related problems recognising the limits of current knowledge
* Develop ideas through analysis of concepts and carry out plans
* Apply a reflective approach to theoretical and/or practical issues
* Respond to questions utilising appropriate and key evidence from a range of sources including primary research to support argument
* Communicate effectively in a professional manner and apply the right style for the right occasion
* Use and interpret primary/secondary data analysis appropriate to subject-related practice
Some examples of relevant journals:
• Clinical Biomechanics
• Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research
• Clinics in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery
• Foot and Ankle International
• Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association
• Journal of Applied Biomechanics
• The Foot
These are just examples. I would like a combination of books and journals ot be used in order to support this assignment analysis.
