Evolution and Religion Reflective Essay

This reflective essay is geared to make you think a bit deeper about the concept of evolution and faith. As a scientist with religious views and opinions individuals from other fields or secular scientists may have a different view on how evolution and faith intersect. In this essay I want you to present how the topic of evolution would be discussed if someone states “evolution is from the devil” or “you can’t be a scientist and believe in God at the same time”. How would you explain that as a scientist you can still have faith? Use lecture concepts to form your discussion and other material (books, discussions with friends, etc.) to bring about your point of view. This should be an honest, open conversation with yourself, not a who’s right or what’s wrong. This is from you point of view and understanding, not anyone else’s. Write accordingly.

Minimum essay length is 1page.

Writing requirements:
1. Nuts and Bolts:
a. Paper must be a minimum of 1 full page of text, double spaced (maximum of 2 pages). Photos, references not included in page length. Titles will be removed from page length.
b. Margins at 1.0”
c. Double-spaced lines; indent paragraphs 0.5”
d. Font: Ariel or Times New Roman, 12 pt
e. Style as an opinion piece in a scientific journal.
f. Check grammar and spelling; make sure any scientific names are written properly.
g. No handwritten reports accepted.

2. References should not be on the same page.
a. List only the literature which you have cited within the text. Only the references that you have cited in the text should be listed. This is not a bibliography. References are single spaced with a blank line between citations.
b. References are listed in alphabetical order, by the first letter of the first author’s last name or agency’s name. (Do not subdivide into books, websites, etc.)
c. Reference citations must be in an acknowledged scientific format; no MLA, APA, or humanity style accepted. Ensure that the format for each reference look similar!
