Objective:

Evaluate the assumptions and arguments of different authors.

Integrate quotations and paraphrases from a reading into an essay.

Apply critical reasoning in critiquing claims made by experts, media, or other sources of information.

Use tone, mechanics, and style appropriate to a college educated audience.

Cite sources correctly, in-text and in a list of sources.

Mark important points of each article as you read (or interviews as you listen), then annotate. Each of these annotations should be about page (double spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font, 1 margins) and must include:

An APA citation of the source.

At least one quote from the source, cited appropriately in APA format.

An explanation of the argument. What is the authors thesis? How does s/he support it?

An explanation of the authors stake in the issue (why does this issue matter to him/her?)

An explanation of the authors support for the issue. What sources/studies/facts/opinions does the author rely upon?

What assumptions does the author make about the issue or the audiences opinion(s) of it?

A specific explanation of why you chose this source: How does it relate to your topic?

How is it similar to/different from your other sources?
