Drawing from lectures and course readings, each student will select and analyze an existing advertising campaign. This campaign needs to be represented by a commercial aired on television, radio, or the internet. Students will be expected to identify a specific ethics issue raised by the ad campaign and then analyze that issue and ad from the perspectives of two ethical theories explored in the course.

The issue statement is a simple 2 sentence write-up indicating which ad campaign the student has selected to analyze as well as the ethics issue she/he will be examining. Examples: “I am choosing to analyze the ‘Buggy Bug Spray’ commercial. I will be looking at the issue of using sex to sell products;” or “I am choosing to analyze the recent ‘McDoogle’s Restaurant’ ads found in magazines. I will be looking at the issue of gender stereotyping.” You do not need to indicate which lenses you are choosing at this time or the specifics of why you think the ad is problematic. The campaign selection and issue statement is e-mailed to the instructor by the due date.

The 5 page (double-spaced, standard margins, and 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font) written paper must follow APA documentation style and will be graded on spelling, grammar, and readability in addition to content. a. A presentation of the ad campaign and identification of ethics issue
b. A presentation of two ethical theories
c. An analysis of the ad campaign element using the theories
