Identify a real or fictitious individual with a substance abuse problem. Be very specific: Provide such items as gender, age, ethnicity, and other information that you believe is important. Identify specific substances used including how much and how often. Identify the person’s actions and behaviors as well as any areas of his/her life that may be affected by his/her use. Please be very specific. Describe the effects on family and friends. Identify and describe the specific criteria the individual meets for a diagnosis of abuse/addiction. Identify and discuss all aspects of your recommended treatment intervention. Please provide your rationale for any recommendations and support those with research. Don’t forget to take all aspects of the person and family into account including such things as culture and religious backgrounds. Remember to provide specific information with examples.

Note: Legal and Ethical: If you are presenting a real individual, you must change all identifying information of the person, and all identifying information of other people involved in their life to maintain confidentiality and privacy.

Note: If you are presenting a fictitious individual, this must be one of your own creation and originality. Do not create your case from another source, ie famous person or fictional character.

The Research Paper provides you the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to apply the concepts covered throughout the course. You are encouraged to utilize the Internet and the CalSouthern library to access current literature and information to enhance your analysis for this project.

Do not use the course texts. This is a research paper requiring references outside of the class reading. Your paper should cite at least 10 references (outside of the course texts), including journal articles and recent texts. APA format is required. Your paper must be 12-14 plus a title and reference page. Due Week 7.
